Introduction:
Hello again. Well, its that time. Time to discuss Claude, and i am sure that many will disagree with my opinion or want to lynch me because i have noticed a sudden and high increase in Claude fans after the "big" reveal.
To be perfectly clear, i like Claude, and i think she has potential as a character, however, currently i am really worried, because having Claude as somewhat of a god character can be used as a deus ex machina by the bad writer of the third game.
Sunrider academy, does not count. Since it is a separate entity and a non-canon story.
Analysis:
The choise of Claude being a god at first, did not sit with me well. Not because that would be bad for her as a character. But mainly because it is incredibly hard to make a god character correctly. And in Liberation Day the writer showed just how unskilled he is in the art of writting. He has the imagination, but the skill for writing is nonexistant.
A god character, unless its limits are somewhat defined, can become a free "get out of jail" card for an unskilled writter. Oh a plot hole? God character! Oh someone died? God character! It can take away the tension, the risks, even the feelings of some certain episodes. Just like after seeing goku die once and then revived, i simply didnt feel any risk for him.
It is far worse, when a god character is set to be a whimsical god and a trickster. Because these portrayals of gods become so random that it becomes pretty much stupid. And Claude fits into that category in how she is presented.
It seems that while trying to rip off warhammer 40k, the writter ignored all of the things that made gods in that universe great as characters and beings that influence the universe.
Analysis part 2:
Now i have said before, that Claude being a god is not inherently a bad thing. However, it has a bigger problem. The reveal. It simply sucked. Look, when you try to pull of crap like this, there has to be build up. As an example i will use RWBY. Before Cinder (The main bad guy) reveals her master plan on how to destroy her target and plunge the planet into chaos, we are shown parts of her plans. We are shown details that will be important further, thus a build up is made, because people wonder what is happening exactly. They know vaguely, what is happening. And then the big reveal happens, and then people simply go crazy, because they had all of the details and now the full picture is uncovered in the big reveal.
In case of Claude, it wasnt there. She just came up "Oh hey, im a god, whatuuup biatch!" and thats it. It was anti-climatic, and worse, it seemed random. Out of the blue. Noow i get why people might like her, she gives many possibilities as a character.
But considering the quality of character writting in LD and the skill needed to pull off good god characters, i cant help but feel worried that the writter will fck her up.
How i imagined Claude:
Now of course, we will all have our different opinions and while i see the pros of god Claude, i saw a different vision of her that i would like to share. I know that this will never happen as the path is set already, but i still want to share what i thought would happen.
For me, the "big" reveal of Claude being a god, was one of the main dislike points of the story. Not because its a bad idea. But because it was badly implemented. Like i said, it looked as if it was out of nowhere, just random.
After the ending of the second game, when it was revealed that in the sequal there will be a traitor. My two main suspects were Kryska, and Claude. Now you may ask. Why Claude? Because she was the perfect for the role.
In the first two games, we got a moderate ammount of scenes with her, but yet with all of that, we failed to know anything about her, she was always unknown, a random person in the crew.
Now why would i suspect her and why i think her being a spy would have been better than a god in the current random implementation?
Because her attitude and actions could be faked. Think about it. She acts in a way, that everyone avoids her, she acts like she is a complete idiot and because of that noone is worried. Is that not the perfect cover for a spy? Make people think you are just an airhead pervert that poses no threat?
Not only that, but the start of the third game also made me wonder. There is little time between the games. Yet, from knowing nothing about medicine, she becomes a competent medic? Unless, she always could do that, yet chose to again, act innocent and like an idiot on purpose.
All of this pointed to such potential of her being a spy for a third party. Because it was obivious she was not with PACT, because the sunrider would have been dead already. At the time i did not know what the third party was (Lets face it, alphas would not use human operatives), but after the third game (When she became a god) i again, saw wasted potential.
Just imagine, Claude is a spy sent by the ebony fleet, to spy on Kayto shields, and in time, quietly remove him. Now why would ebony fleet know about that? Remember, the timelines, are different, yet simmilar.
Now this is just a possibility and at the same time a theory. But i would theorise that the ebony fleet comes from an older universe that was simmilar to the one we play in. And in their universe the PACT conflict also happened. However, Kayto shields became a hero of the people, he led the effort for reclamation and united the universe. This or something else notabble, would make him a possible threath to do ebony fleet.
Not only that, but the romance and better character fleshing out options would be provided. Claude could feel bad for betraying the crew, because she enjoyed her time with them. She could have developed feelings for Kayto and him the same (More choises and expansion of the first two games possible), from those random and funny situations.
A compelling, opposite sides of the barricade story, fleshing out of Claude.... So may ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ possibilities wasted!!!!
Ending:
Now, this wouldnt be so bad, if the god character, was set up well, or at least an indication of it would be given. But there wasnt. now i know that the scenario i propose might not fit for everyone, or seem a bit cliche. That is normal. But in my opinion its better than a god character in a bad writters hands. This has to be dealt with delicately, and the writter of LD has the delicacy of a rhino in a porcelain store.
Having a time changing god who is only doing it for its own amusement. Is too big of a tool simmilar to what eagles were to LOTR. It can be overused as a deus ex machina tool in the literal sense.
All opinions, critisisms and ideas are appreciated. Just dont kill me please.
P.S. If a crew member dies, people would grieve for him/her. Mkay writter?
