I just finished the main game of Liberation Day on Captain difficulty (not started on [RE]Turn yet). The game was on my library for a long timebut just didn't have time to get to it.
The first thing I will say is that I love the Japanese dub. Since I never watch anime in English dub, and play a lot of Japanese voiced games, I am far more comfortable hearing lines from anime archtypes in Japanese than in English. No disrespect to the English voice actors, but generally speaking I wasn't a fan of the English dub in the first two chapters at all.
I decided to stick to the English localisation for the text, listening to the Japanese then reading the text to see how faithful the translations is, and I am happy with the localisation. Some lines did get changed in the Japanese dub, but I would say mostly to make it sound more natural and of no consequence (one mistake I did spot is that in the scene post credit, the mysterious fleet is stated to have travelled forward 5000 years in the Japanese dub instead of 2000 years in the English text).
There seem to have been some criticism for the length of the game in the first release, but personally, I was fine with it (definitely didn't take me a mere 4 hours as I've seen some reviews state) and the life that the Japanese dub brought to the game (it really felt like a space opera more than the first two games for me) more than made up for the length anyway.
The new theme song is also great.
Criticism wise, I did think that the game did take a long time to get started (the visual novel portion of the game between the first and second portion of the game felt a bit long).
It also didn't bother me too much that the game was "on rail" as some would put it. Truth to be said, I don't have a lot of time to play long visual novels with long, complex branches, and while I can totally understand that other's may have different view, I am happy with a largely linear story and treat the game more as a story driven strategy game.
I do have two questions though:
1. I chose to spare the Legion (or rather Ava) in the second chapter, and as a consequence, it seems that Kuushana will helm that flagship. If I had sunk the Legion though, would she have been given another ship, or would PACT have rebuilt something else to replace it?
2. I seem to remember coming across the word "Farari" before the post credit scene.. Maybe during the dialogue between Claude and Alpha, but I can't quite remember.. Can someone remind me?
(Not sure if I will replay the entire campaign with difference choices)
