Now that's difficult. Two of my favorite five Mecha are long-range fighters (Bellzelute and Zaku Gunner Luna ver), while two are allrounders (Strike Rouge and Destiny GD) with the fifth being more of a recon type (Kyrios GD) I really can't decide, huh. So ... hmm. I'd probably build a Cera version of the Seraphim or the Black Jack. Given the law of chromatic superiority they have to be painted in red or gold of course. Of course it's not the Ryder that matters but the pilot inside. Or so someone would say.

Well then, tell me about that Neptunia game when you have played it for a bit - I still have to play even one of these games. I'm normally a huge fan of JRPGs, but I kinda never got any time to play Neptunia.
Huh, so many levelups for playing two shitty VNs? Now that's a generous DM, I have to appreciate that. Still, no word on any new armor? Or comes that with the defence bonus? On the other hand, with Speed Running being improved, I doubt it. And what are "Special Mechanics"? That sounds pretty weird here!
Okay, back to being more serious: Somehow I couldn't bring myself to play Sickness, so I put it on a hold and finally gave in to all the people wo urged me to buy Kindred Spirits on the Roof. While I never was much into yuri so far this game might just have sparked some interest in that genre for me. So far I like the game very much. The characters are fleshed out and very likable, the art is really pretty and the voice acting is very good, even though not all scenes are voiced. (Bonus points for Icari's VA voicing one of the characters in Kindred Spirits, even though said character is almost entirely Icari's opposite.) Sadly I'm so far not sure if the dialogue choices you pick really matter - in that regard it felt pretty "kinetic", but maybe I'm wrong. I need to see this through and will probably update later.
On the other hand I got dragged into playing Civilization V with a few friends on the weekend. I have never been much into Civ I have to admit, but playing it together with friends is quite fun.

It's hard to understand when the music runs at full volume.
Though, I just tuned down the music entirely and now - yeah, without the BGM she sounds a lot like Sola.

Well, in the one scene where Ghost Maray embraces Kayto she says "Oniichan!", though it's not easy to understand because of the music. @newage: Well, there is a thread about anime in the other forum ...

I think there might be some kind of misunderstanding here. I'm not actually new to VN, I just took the burden of saving King Mags curiosity. I played quite a few VN's (and Dating Sims) over the past few years. There have been a few very good ones, while most of them have been laughable and well, there were one or two that I could only describe as utter misogynistic crap. But I'm not blaming anyone here, don't get me wrong. Of course the thing with the rating can't be taken too serious - especially with a very low amount of voters. For example this "Panzermadels" thing which god knows why is in my steam recommendation list is rated 7.67 on VNDB - but that's probably because there are only 3 voters so far. So it's basically the same with HP and DSoL. With very few voters it's just not representative. And most of my post was just ranting because I personally have an extremely low opinion of HP (not that DSoL was much better imho.) Thanks for the recommendations - funnily I have IMHHW already on my Steam Library. That Grisaia thing sounds nice too, but I still got a lot of VN's (and other games...) to play - besides, some people are telling me over and over again to get "Kindred Spirits", so I'll probably get that game next (even though Yuri isn't exactly my thing) to silence these people. @marx The english voice acting was really, really terrible - I basically whined the first 30 minutes of playing at Magpie about it. Go and ask him if you wanna. And well, the sex scenes were awkward anyway, so it's not really a big loss. (In case you know it: Huniepop's VA is like a thousand times better in comparison.) One of the other VN's King Mags "picked" for me is Sickness. Will take a closer look at that soon. Just not today, it's damn late here.

Well, this VNDB page looks like a very good site to use, especially as I have around 30 unplayed VNs in my Steam Library, huh. Thanks for the link! Well, yes. Except the part with the bikini armor. Does entering "kill la kill" into Google image search, stare for 3 seconds and hastily closing the window count? That's good to hear! I just wanted to make sure, y'know? Bad blood because of a silly joke would be the last thing I'd want. Sadly I also played Highschool Possession yesterday. Which felt like it was capitalizing on "Yamada-kun and the 7 witches", atleast partially. But the art ... dear god the art was even WORSE than for Divine Slice of Life. Also no voiceovers here. (Thank god?) That game was even shorter than DSoL ... how this work even scored higher than DSoL on VNDB ... yeah, I don't get it at all. So, how many XP does this yield? Is that enough for level 2 of VN slaying, or even level 3? Also, can I upgrade my armor? Pretty please?

Hey.
Okay, as Maray has only one/two words in LD it's not really important, but I'm still curious, and I didn't find anything in the voice cast announcement video and VNDB ...
Thanks, Miri.

Aren't we all genre savvy? I never said that you're a bad guy! I'm just ... well, I imagine it like this. King Mags: Knight Mirilene, I have a task for you. Purge the bad VN's from the land using your holy blade. Miri: My King! I'm honored that you chose me for this important task. But what's up with this so-called armor? It reveals more than it covers! King Mags: No no, knight Mirilene. This armor is to ensure maximum agility. It also provides ... service. Miri: Forgive my mistake, my king! *Wanders off to fight the bad VNs* Okay, probably I'm the perverted one here. No offense meant though, I'm just teasing you. If you're feeling offended I'll apologize and remove that part. :]

Hmmm, right now I'm playing quite a bit of "SC2VN" - it's freely available on Steam, and you're playing a foreigner (male or female, bonus points for that) who moved into South Korea to get into a pro league for Starcraft II. While I'm absolutely not into esports and I only barely touched SC2 (Only played once through it for the story) that game is pretty nice. It's not even a kinetic VN - you have to make a few decisions during the game - and so far the game feels kinda ... well, I'd say, realistic. At least the parts that I can relate too. I never thought that I'd get so much fun out of a completely free VN. When I'm done with that ... well, duh. I still got around 31 other VNs to play, so I'll probably play one of these. On Android I'm playing some idle game at the moment - "Tower of Hero", where you basically go up and up and up having your automatically spawning characters battle more and more and more monsters. And I'm pretty sure it will kill the battery in no time if this goes on ... It's pretty simple, really. Buy a new character, level it up, earn more gold, buy the next character, level ... and so on. Also the game claims I have 803 hours played so far. That has to be a mistake, certainly... Well, maybe not. Probably I'm just addicted.
*Update*
Done with SC2VN, that was a good game. Really liked it. Now, as Magpie forced convinced me into becoming his VN Test Slave I had to test "Divine Slice of Life" and, uh. Well. I got this from a humble bundle together with 9 other games for around 4€, and for that amount of money it's okay. But for the full price of 12€ ... not so much. Incredibly short story, horrible english voice acting (though, even fully voiced sex scenes - sadly these are very awkward) and a pretty simple art style, so, nah ... not worth it. I hope this satisfies your highness, Lord Magpie of VN Land?

Hmmm, I'd like to bring up Super Robot Wars again. Actually, there is at least one game that has a pretty good fan translation. That one would be Judgement. But to play that you need a) a gameboy advance emulator (which shouldn't be so hard to get) and b) of course a file of the module. That's a bit more tricky to get, because the "original" file that was at romhacking aerie has been infected by a virus, so, welp, good luck with that. Should still be a few more around though. So, it's a gameboy advance game from ~2004, so don't expect superb graphics. To be honest, I'd even say it's a bit more complex than Sunrider. Of course you can upgrade the units - like, HP, armor, energy, firepower and all that, but you also got to spend points on pilot skills, like, melee damage, evasion, hit chance and similar stuff. Also each unit has several slots for modules, which enhance units. For example, with basic consumables for energy, ammo, hp, but there are also modules that for example increase your weapons range, provide a shield/barrier, allow ground-based units to fly and similar. The list is pretty long, thankfully every module is explained ingame. Also, every pilot has 1-3 slots for modules who, again, improve abilities or provide abilities, for example shooting down incoming missiles (a very useful skill). Aaand several units have exchangeable gears. Some units from Gundam Seed for example can use different "packs" that sport different weapons. For example a melee-focused pack, one for long range engagements, and so on. Also units perform depending on terrain. Some units fight better when they're on the ground, while almost all units perform poorly when you have to fight below the ocean surface. (With a few exceptions) Anyway, it's a good game - if you like Real Robot/Super Robot series. J features, lemme think ... Mazinkaiser, Dancougar, Combattler, Voltes and Zeorymer - as Super Robots. As Real Robot it features Gundam Seed, G Gundam, Brain Powerd, Martian Successor Nadesico, Full Metal Panic! and SPT Layzner. Oh, also Tekkaman Blade. You don't really need to know any of these series to understand the game, but it could be helpful. There are a lot of videos around on youtube for further info. Yeah, this old lady isn't biased or something. Certainly not, especially as I have only played through the entire game to date 47 times. Oh, did I mention that it has a superb New Game+ mode ...? (Also people say it's ridiculously easy. Even I managed to beat it without cheats. When I never even could beat FA/MoA/LD on Waifu mode without pretending to be a dev.)

Hey!
Okay, now, now the Death Star reference was blatantly obvious, even a little bit too obvious for my taste, but what was that "The moon being a portal to another dimension"? Is that some reference to some other show? I honestly can't remember anything, so I wonder if that was a reference to something else too?
Thanks, Miri

Hay anyone some info how the artist is called? And what's the real track name? :]

"Pact Admiral Lady"? Her name's Kuushana, y'know.
Might as well be a hidden sister from Asaga or something, huh ... anyway, I'm getting some "Gilbert Durandal mixed with a bit of Char" - vibe from her, that has to be some worth. I.E. getting my vote.

I remember that in FA/MoA the music were just .ogg files somewhere easily accessible in the game directory. I wonder if the music files for LD are similarly easily accessible?

With *** being Cosette.
After doing my first playthrough I was quite confused when I read that people let Cosette die and thought that you probably have to get her shot down in the last mission. Only after doing another playthrough I had the option to "actively" save Cosette from beim killed by Asaga. Now I wonder which flags you need to save her without using the wishall. With these flags I again "rescued" her without the wishall: (The formatting is horrible, apparently the software here doesn't like tabs)
Flag: Cera Reunion: Friendly Discipline: Relaxed First Side Job: Human Traffickers Fate Traff: Taken alive Versta: Saved Mochi: Ryders Forward MedMalpractice: Let Claude off Chigara: Forgave Talking Sola: Be careful Safety: Icari Messhall talk: Chigara Growing fame: Not interested The Alliance: Trust Paradox: Dangerous Beach1 Icari Kryska Beach2 Ava Beach3 Asaga SolaMom: Sympathize SolaPast: Protect Ceradeserters: Acquitted Wishall: Kept Alliance Election: Civilian Government Ongess Slums: Relief efforts Collateral Damage: Go to press The Alliance: Trust Grey's gambit: Protest Ava: Saved Ava
I wonder if it's more like the sum of good/hard choices you have to pick to save her, or if it's a few special flags. First thing that comes to mind is the Ongess Slums thing and (probably) the captured traffickers. (Though, as Cosette doesn't engage in that part of activity it seems irrelevant, hmm.) Probably also the Cera deserters who haven't been executed?
Any other ideas?

Knights of Sidonia counts perfectly as Mecha / Real Robot, yep. :]
And well, I guess everybody would need a break after Zeta Gundam, mhm.

Well, I don't want to pollute the other discussion about anime, so ... here we go.
Real Robot shows (without a special order)
Mobile Suit Gundam series
"00" - Actually one of the first real robot shows I've ever seen. I liked it quite much, admittedly got the hots for Setsuna/Tieria/Allelujah too. Disliked a few character deaths, especially poor Kinue. Was very impressed with the Soundtrack too. 'Daybreaks Bell' and 'Ash like snow' are still favorite songs of me.
"Wing" - I liked this one too, but given that it has very, very few named character deaths I probably have seen the version of kids. Also big Milliardo fangirl. Didn't like the music too much though.
"Seed" - Hmmm. Like, not much of a Kira fan though. 'Freedom and Justice' is a great instrumental track, even had it as phone ringtone for a while. Poor Nicol ...
"Seed Destiny" - I liked Shinn. Of course his female sidekick has to be almost completely useless, yeah right ...
"ZZ" - Have seen only a bit of it, but it was horribly silly. After like 20-25 episodes I just couldn't go on anymore with that sillyness.
"Zeta" - Well ... the ending is quite a bit like LD's, except that people start dying in Zeta much, much earlier.
"Age" - Despite what most people say I really liked AGE. Also an exceptional soundtrack. 'Hajimari no Yokan' especially is very, very great.
"Build Fighters" / "Build Fighters Try" - Liked both series. No drama, no deaths, pretty relaxing.
Other Real Robot shows
"Full Metal Panic!" - I liked it, though some of the school scenes were a bit too silly for me. Overall a pretty good series. Haven't seen the second series though.
"Brain Powerd" - Debatable if this counts as mecha. I liked it, the opening is really really bad though and gives a completely wrong impression. It's quite astounding that this pretty positive work was directed by the same guy who made Zeta Gundam. Definitely one of my all time favorites.
"Macross Frontier" - Not as silly as "Macross Seven", still a good work. Liked Alto and *sniff* Michael.
"Macross Seven" - Yeah, well, another really silly show, but I forced myself through it. It's okay. Wouldn't want to rewatch it, but some of the songs are great too.
"Code Geass" - I liked it very much, but the ending, meh.
"Knights of Sidonia" - Mmhm, I loved this one, even though it caters to a lot of kinks I don't really like. The bear, for example, or, uh, tentacle girl.
"Aldnoah.Zero" - Another great work. I also like the reversed roles. Having only "Mook units" while fighting "Super Robots/Prototypes" felt pretty refreshing to me. Was a tad disappointed about the end, but not much.
"M3: Sono Kuroki Hagane" - Definitely one of my favorites. It's a bit like Evangelion imho, but the end is not that depressing.
"Hoshi no Koe" - Also a great work; as far as I understand it, the creator made the entire anime almost on his own, with very little help. Definite like.
"Cross Ange" - Okay, now ... I can't say anything about this. I forced myself through it, yet ... I dunno. Got a few good "What." - moments from it though. I definitely do NOT recommend it for someone who is new to the Mecha genre!
"Mobile Police Patlabor" - Another special one. This is more like Slice of Life mixed with a police series and Mecha. It doesn't take itself too serious, while not being as forced comically as for example ZZ Gundam.
Real Robot shows I haven't finished (yet)
"Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-blooded orphans" - Unless the last episode has aired I won't bother watching further than episode 3. So far nice, though all these crude weapons turn me really off.
"Muv Luv: Alternative Total Eclipse" - While starting out extremely depressing (Hell, the beginning is more depressing than LDs ending), it gradually becomes better.
"Appleseed"
"Broken Blade"
"Martian Successor Nadesico" - This might end up too silly for me ...
Super Robot shows
"Neon Genesis Evangelion" - The classic, huh. My 'starter', so to speak. I liked it, but it's really pretty angsty and depressing, sometimes also quite confusing. I didn't like it as much as ...
"Rebuild of Evangelion" - I liked the remake much more. Partially. 1.0 was okay, even though it was mostly recyled material. I loved 2.0, but ... 3.0 was a huge letdown for me. I just hope the last episode - with the ominous title "3.0+1.0" will not screw it up again ...
"RahXephon" - Opinions differ greatly on this. Most say that it's just a ripoff from Evangelion, and while that isn't entirely wrong I still think it has it's own right, especially with the exclusive focus on sound as topic. Poor Asahina, though ...
"Pilot candidate" - Other side of the medal. After a few episodes I couldn't continue this. It's ... well, it felt totally like a NGE clone to me. Much more than RahXephon ...
"Gurren Lagann" - Well, yeah. It's ... silly. Some people like it, some don't. I didn't.
"Lagrange: The Flower of Rin-ne" - I'm still not sure if this one counts as Real- or Super Robot. Honestly. I liked it; the ending of season 2 was so much better than the bittersweet ending from season 1.
"Bokurano" - Okay, Bokurano makes almost every other depressing anime look like a children's birthday party. Or so they say, and they're damn right. People claimed to become depressed over this, so, uh. Tread with caution. I liked it though.
Other shows which I wouldn't exactly call "Mecha" for various reasons
"Guilty Crown" "Magic Knight Rayeearth" "Utawarerumono" "Stellvia" "AKB0048" - I really liked this one.
It's all just my personal opinion; if I offended someone I'm sorry.

I think I have read about NG+ a looong time ago, but I'm not sure if that was any official stuff (and even so, that was long before it was announced that LD would be a separate game).
Also, if there is the option to start a NG+, what does it entail? Carrying over upgrades? Intel? Both? Unlocking a new difficulty harder than Space Whale?
Just curious.
Edit: Changed the topic so that it unmistakenly relates to LD.

Huh, actually ... I have never seen any of these. Maybe I'll take a peek!
Strangely enough MAL counts a whole lot of series as Slice of Life ... so far I've seen: A channel, Azumanga Daioh, K-On!, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, Isshuukan friends, Ai Yori Aoshi, Minami-ke, Boku wa tomodachi gai nai, Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii, Koufuku Graffiti and Jinsei. Probably even a few more I have forgotten already.

After 20+ years Ayanami expies are still going strong, huh.
Though, Sola probably has more character development than NGE-Ayanami and a bit less than RoE-Ayanami (1.0 + 2.0) ... Just my 2 cent though, might be wrong.

Gunslinger Girl was really good, but all the drama. I didn't cry just once, but to be honest, it's pretty easy to make me cry anyway, so ...
I really liked Sora no Woto, it's probably one of the few Slice of Life anime with serious character development.
... and back to bed. :x

Nichijou? No offense, but, Magpie, why hast thou betrayed me? I've seen quite a bit Slice of Life, but Nichijou was pretty weird, so I'm not so sure if it's a good series for starters. The aforementioned Cowboy Bebop is very well made, however it's genre (Wikipedia says "Space Western" & "Neo-noir") is pretty rare in anime, at least as far as I know. Now that I think of it - "Noir" is also classified as 'neo-noir'. Definitely worth a watch, if you like the "Girls with Guns" - genre. If you're looking for something serious but aren't sure about the "Girls with Guns" part, I'd strongly recommend "Black Lagoon", however that, too, is rather extreme, so, hmm. (Wiki: Action, Crime Drama, Black Comedy - I'm not so sure about the 'Crime' part, but oh well.) Still staying serious and in the Action/Drama department: "Darker Than Black" (Also: Supernatural, Mystery) Both of these lack a bit in "fun Waifus" - it's more like serious badass Waifus though. If I wasn't totally overworked and sick I'd probably list a lot more. Maybe later. :]

Huh, there were OVAs for the original season? I think I have to look these up sometime. And the game ... uhm, given my low skills in such games (and Utawarerumono having a reputation as extremely hard) I think that's impossible to do for me. Also started watching "Fate Stay Night" now, just finished episode 3, but so far it's not very convincing. I'm very critical about tampering with historical characters - even though it's historical characters from that series universe. Feels relatively alien to me, so, hum. I'll still watch a few more episodes, but I'm not totally hot for it. Speaking of hot - some of the male characters are very pretty though Too bad that the one guy I liked most so far (simply by looks) is such a psycho. (Yes, that would be Lancer, though Archer isn't bad either.)

I have to admit that I never got really hyped over a game's release so far, so this entire feeling is kind of new to me. Also the times where I spent the whole night gaming are long over (Y'know, this lady isn't in her twenties anymore, as sad as that is) ... With Liberation Day however it's different - I really, really want to know how the story goes further. I think I'm really, really hyped, and so I took a day off - the scene probably is worth a laugh though, so ... (The company where I work in is very small, only 8 people, so it's a pretty familiar atmosphere.) Me: "Hey boss, next Friday I'm taking a day off." Coworker1: "Are you meeting someone, Ela?" Me: "Well, I'm having a date with two dimensional boys and girls." Complete silence ensues.
Coworker2: (after a bit of pause) "So, what game will be released?" After that I tried to advertise the game for a bit, but as my coworkers are usually only interested in "casual facebook games" I doubt anyone will take a peek at it. And with that I'll stop attentionwhoring. I just found it kinda funny, so I thought I'd share it. Edit: Dang, I thought I had posted it into the "Other Discussion" forum! :/

Thanks for the thoughts so far! And well, I wasn't exactly sure if this post belongs to the Sunrider General, because it's not exactly "gameplay talk", but as it's about canon stuff, it probably was misposted. Sorry for that! "Consumables" was probably not a good title, yes - I was using Wookiepedia for a very long time, and provisions are called consumables there, so I assumed it would be a viable choice. But yeah, the relation to RPGs is pretty close there. I just find it kinda interesting to see how different shows handle this - in "Nadesico" for example the energy for the Aestivalis units only lasts for five minutes (I see a pun towards NGE here, but maybe that's just me), while oxygen lasts for less than eight hours. "Sidonia" however takes the crown with stored oxygen, food and water for ten days in the Guardians. Sadly I can't remember any other shows - barring that various Gundam series have consumables for at least 1-2 days on their titular mecha.

Hey there,
actually I have been wondering this for a while. I mean, game-wise, the Ryders operate never very far away from the Sunrider (or other base ships), but I'm still curious how long consumables (mainly oxygen, food and water) on a lone Ryder would last? Mere hours? A day? Maybe a few days? Also, what about fuel? Is it even viable using Ryders for recon duties, or are their fuel reserves so low that specialized ships are used for that kind of task?
The Sunrider wiki is awfully low on such info - at least I learned that Ryders are limited fuel-wise. Unlike certain other Robots which run indefinitely on their own reactors for all energy/fuel purposes.

Hmmm ... while I normally see myself more of a RPG gamer (equally split between W-RPG and J-RPGs) I have a couple of friends which I know since ~15+ years, and these guys usually drag me into games I'd normally never even touch.
A few examples? I started playing Planetside 2, League of Legends and even Armored Warfare just to play with them, but none of these are games which I like very much. Still play them because it's fun to do them with friends, but when I'm on my own I don't touch either of these.
The first western RPG I played was Eye of the Beholder, and I absolutely loved it. By coincidence it was also one of the few RPGs I completed; I also completed the sequel (The Legend of Darkmoon), that was a great game too, but I loathed the third game and never got into it very far.
The RPG I liked the most still is Ultima Underworld II: Labyrinth of Worlds. I really fancied all the possibilities you had in that game, and the eight different worlds felt different for me. Especially the concepts of hunger and tiredness, which you nowadays usually only find in survival games, appealed to me.
Later I got into MMOs - come to think of it, I played Ultima Online roughly for 8 years, at some times I even paid two accounts at the same time. I was mainly a roleplayer though, PVE (and of course PVP) didn't really interest me much. Tried a few other MMOs too, but I never got much into WoW; after the sandbox nature of UO I got used to, the pretty linear progression of WoW felt quite alien to me. Besides - in UO you could perfectly well pick only crafting skills and never even touch a weapon, but still make quite a living.
Ah, where was I? Eastern RPGs, mhm. I played quite a few Final Fantasy titles - in hindsight it's kinda funny that I never got my hands on FF7 (the PC version flat out refused to run on my computer). Like the aforementioned Persona 3/4 titles quite a bit; I even got a PSP just to play Persona Portable. Right now I'm still working on "The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky", and if I wasn't saving up money for Liberation Day, I would have bought the sequel to TLoH already.
I also like turn based games, but I thoroughly suck at them. Spent a lot of time with Heroes of Might and Magic II and III, a bit Age of Wonders and various Civilization titles. But as I said, I really suck at these - I never managed to beat Sunrider without cheating. *cough* I think, the only turn based strategy game I played without ever cheating (or setting the AI to easy) is Super Robot Wars Judgement, but apparently that's one of the easiest games around. Normally I'm not too much into that kind of game, but as I have seen almost all of the series featured there (Gundam Seed, Brain Powerd, Full Metal Panic, to name a few) playing that game was a must.
While I hate to admit it, I'm also prone to Match-3 games. You know, Bejeweled and the myriad of 'free' clones on Facebook. Oh, and I got quite some VNs & Dating Sims. I'd rather not go into details here though.
