For all your feedback regarding the sounds and effects during your beta encounters, a few things that came to mind for me this evening were: Beta 11- I am sure this is on the radar and is quite small in the scale of things, but are we going to see soundbites for the Union Battleship / Cera Gunboat beyond their 'beep boops'?
I only did a very light session tonight so I cannot remember if there are any other units still pending a sound, feel free to top up my list everyone if you know of any.
- I was curious if there were or are any plans to add dedicated audio cues to the use of commands like 'full forward' and 'all guard'? This seems like a great opportunity to add content for Kayto who only seems currently interested in shouting commands when it involves the use of the Vanguard Cannon.
- And lastly just as a side flag, it seems that the only 'order' that does not trigger a 'you lack the specific command points' when used incorrectly is resurrection.

-I fear all mercenaries kinda got shafted actually. -no additional lines seem to have been recoreded for Kayto -it's true, that order didn't have the sound byte set. fixed for next release.

- That's a shame, guess there is no chance that you guys will have an internal office day of replicating the voice and additional lines?
- Much appreciated.

Always hoped that there would be a choice in the final game whether to listen to the audio in English (old files) or in Japanese (new files) As for the mercs not being voiced, it's probably too late to hire extra people, but I think Vaen should do Union Battleship and Sam should do Cera Gunboat Imagine Union Battleship lines with a Dutch accent, yea! xD Dutch accent sample (do watch this first or the lines below won't make sense): Union Battleship On selection: "Union Bat... uh, Asteroid Crusher, at your service" "Expecting trouble?" xD "I need my bottle. 'hic' " On moving: "Directions received" xD On attack: "Altering geometry" "Extracting motherlode" On using Gravity Gun: "kom naar vader!" Make it happen xD

Speak of the devil, I actually told Vaendryl to do the exact same thing the other day.
He politely declined.

To Magpie: Thanks for the support!! Much appreciated! To Samu-kun: NOOOOOOOOO..... why, Vaen, why? Ok, ok, I know... he declined because you're not doing Cera Gunboat. If you both did them, you could giggle at each other when doing the lines and so he wouldn't feel small Also I leave it to you to decide your accent. Chinese? Korean? Japanese? Up to you P/S - I was just messing around anyway, just something to think about in future

Holding you to it xD Also I say make the fans work a bit. People have been too lazy quiet lately. Let them come up with lines for you and Sam. We've had a fanfic contest before. So surely coming up with some good lines is trivial. Best lines judged by you and Sam will get Liberation Day for free. I will abstain of course, but you guys can still use my lines if you like them.

I know, Samu and Vaendryl are trying hard to be respectable, serious game developers, but a little indie wonkiness surely wouldn't hurt. Count me in, absolutely supporting this.

So, finished beta 12. No-speak-Japanese feedback on the voices: Generally, I don't really have anything useful to say other than that the voices seem good enough. Koshi Yukimitsu's Grey is particularly fitting and Kisumi Aoi's Ava is pretty good too. Specific items that I think could use work: Mission 1Asaga's voice is... pretty bad. Despite the fact that this is supposed to be a pretty intense battle (even if you don't remember the MoA ending, Asaga's facial expression and dialogue say it all), her voiceovers are chipper as ever, like she's going on a picnic. In fact, I'd go so far as to say she sounds like Academy Asaga. (Cosette also has the same problem, but she was never on my take-seriously list anyway so it's not like I care ) Sakura Matsuri manages to convey the proper level of tension in other battles, so it's not like she can't do it. "Grey outstretched his arms, his voice echoing through the mammoth hall.""[Alice's] voice echoed through the chamber."These parts would probably be better with actual echoes in the voiceovers. AwakeningAwakened people should probably have a distinct voice effect. (I was thinking of Alicia and Selvaria in Valkyria Chronicles, in their respective normal and Valkyria forms. Can be heard in this video (Chapter 7 semi-spoilers)) Alice-cadiusIs she using a male voice overlaid on a female one? That's a neat trick, didn't know it was used anywhere other than Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. "Everyone" voicesThe lines always sound like a burst of static. Even in the mess hall scene (i.e. not over the radio). Me no likey Merc voicesThey'll be there in the release version, right? Right?

Histidine :
Everyone
I am glad I am not alone on the 'Everyone' lines, I mostly use a headset so when I first heard this line it really hurt my ears. I carried on playing thinking it might have just been a one off but as the line is used quite a few times I just turned my volume straight down for talking segments - would be nice if there was a way to even this sound out.
Histidine :
Awakening
I agree, awakening should resonate an aura of power in comparison to other units. Personally it would also be nice if units under the effect of awakening had both visual (off topic but something like a heat wave blur or a coloured aura) and sound differences (pitch, tone or even alternative lines [which I know the last is unlikely as recording has ended now] ).
Histidine : MercsI think it is safe to say now that the mercs will not be getting lines outside of mods which is a shame as some of them had English lines in previous builds / previous game. I am sure some of us in the community could have done some recording for LiS if it was just a matter of resourcing but with the Japanese VA'ing decision this slightly limits what some of us can offer.

The heavy static in the lines with everyone talking was related to the game engine unexpectedly rendering the sfx differently from Audacity, but it's now been corrected. (But not included in Beta 12.2)
The resources we saved by not voicing the mercs actually allowed us to make the new mercs. I decided have the new mercs, rather than voice the old mercs from MoA and have no new Libday mercs.
People are vastly underestimating the amount of effort it takes to record professional grade voices. The new Japanese voices were recorded at a professional sound studio, which had microphones and sound equipment worth multiple thousand dollars, and we locked all the VAs into a padded vault with double steel gates to eliminate all outside voice, and had an audio engineer present at all times to correct the microphone and use the mixer. That's the only way to produce production quality voice work which we can acceptably put into a commercial game.
The ENG voices don't hold a candle to it, we pretty much tried our best to fix the voices using digital processing after the fact, but you can only do so much digitally. The only reason we got away with the ENG voices was because we only recorded the battle voices, making digital cleanup even feasible (no, you can't digitally clean up 2500 wav files), and essentially forcing all lines to be short and convey little emotional nuance. We also put the bgm at the front of the mix, which washed out the voices and made the recording artifacts less noticeable, as opposed to Liberation Day, where the voices are mixed at the front and the bgm is far in the back.

I am sure we are all aware it was a difficulty of project scope, you cannot have infinite resourcing with a release especially when you are pushing for a release date and the same can be said with quality. I like to think what we are all getting at are our 'lessons learned' for the Liberation Day development cycle and how we feel as part of the target audience. If things such as the 'everyone' lines (thank you for that by the way) can be patched up easily it is always appreciated, but if not we hope our stances will help you with your next projects in whatever form they take - eg. "Sunrider: The Prototypes Strike Back" or an upcoming decision that you will need to make.

Well, I knew (though not knew knew) professional sound recording calls for expensive equipment with an expert at the controls, but... padded vault with double steel gates? (you can tell I'm no audiophile)

Hehe well I'm no audiophile either, nor do I understand Japanese, so I'm pretty much in the same boat as Histie. I will say though that having all of the girls' lines voiced in Japanese took me by surprise. Full JP voiceover on Patreon is slated at 10k and we're no where near that so I was really only expecting the combat lines to be voiced. Hope with this development, Sunrider will be able to penetrate the Japanese market well. Would be good to know what are their regular sites that promote VNs.
However while it is good to know that Sunrider is likely to get a substantially bigger Japanese audience in future, I fervently hope the English speaking fans are not neglected. We were with you guys from the start, still are, and look forward to more English content. Yes that includes subtitles for combat lines as Histidine stated. I know the old lines in English but I don't know any Japanese to be able to even pair them up properly.

I've seen enough anime and played enough VNs to reasonably guess what everyone is saying (6 years hearing Japanese voiceovers are not just for show!), but yeah, at least some kind of subtitles would be helpful.
