About Ava's Parents (Spoilers)

Yup, I'm commenting on and reviving an old thread, because I am just that bored today.

As this is an old thread I'm not using SPOILER TAGS so if you haven't played through Academy and LD and don't want anything that could possibly be SPOILERS stop reading.

That said, its been a while since played Academy, and I don't recall anything about Ava's mother being mentioned. I also have no recollection of Ava's mother mention in LD [RE]turn either. I had just guessed Ava's mother died when Ava was very young. In Academy Ava's father was usually gone, but when home he was abusive. In LD after telling Shields she didn't recall his promise that they be together commanding a ship, Ava goes back to here quarters and has some sort of hallucination that her father is beating her as she tries to convince him (and perhaps herself) she did the right thing by putting her personal feeling aside. From this I gathered that like in Academy Ava had grown up being abused by her father. If Ava's mother were alive I can't see her leaving Ava to be raised by her father especially since Ava's father was so rarely home.

As for how Ava's parents got together in the first place, I can only guess Ava's father wasn't always lacking empathy. Perhaps the death of his wife changed him or other life experiences changed him to lead him to believe treating his child, raising her to believe ones own personal feelings and desires were a waste of time, would better prepare her for her adult life.
