I did like the combat animations from MoA so I was slightly disappointed that combat animations weren't in Liberation Day. Am I alone with this opinion or do others share this belief?

They did get very long for me, and I like seeing the weapons shooting on the map, I found animations actually made it harder to keep track of what was happening...
However you can with a bit of code reactivate the animations for the ships from MoA, we just dont have any images for the new ships.

I think optional (can be toggled) and revised (personally I think animations should have a condition to say show on the killing shot) would be the best way for animations to return, from what I understand there was quite a bit of feedback at the time that they made gameplay sections drag (although I wouldn't be surprised if these were players who weren't keen on the gameplay side anyway).

I do agree that making combat animations optional is a good idea. Those who dislike them for any reason have the option to disable them and those who like them get their way too. It's a win win scenario. They did get very long for me, and I like seeing the weapons shooting on the map, I found animations actually made it harder to keep track of what was happening... I do agree that having Sola snipe enemies from across the map and waiting for the inevitable explosion was quite enjoyable. I haven't done a comparison but the length of the animations didn't feel too much longer than some of the ones in liberation day to me. In addition, I don't mean any offence but may I enquire what made the animations confusing?

No offense at all! Just when shooting at 10 identical enemies and then having it switch screens back and forth, then doing it all over again made it a bit ...disjointed?

That makes sense. A solution could be if different ships have individual names or flags or something to distinguish a ship from all the other ships. That would partially solve the issue you stated but I don't really think there is a solution to the changing of screens except for disabling them, that is kind of mandatory for combat animations.

I found the game had a bad habit of hanging on the animations when there was a lot of enemies. The projectiles across the map made the game smoother for me. And I have a pretty damn good rig.

Sunrider has been reported as having frame rate issues so I guess that is also an issue with the original combat animations if you have a low frame rate but this is rather circumstantial.
If both animations ran smoothly, If there is another Sunrider, would you prefer the animations to be like the MoA animations or the Liberation Day animations?
And in the situations where the animations in MoA weren't causing the frame rate to drop, which did you prefer the MoA animations or the Liberation Day animations?
