You can't get that satisfaction of hitting an enemy carrier from like 15 hex away with a 15% chance and utterly destroying it with any other weapon... Kinetic is too good!

The feeling when you actually hit enemy ship at 10 hexs with Bianca gun. Pure RNG madness.

I played the first game basically in Fire Emblem Mode (Didn't notice you could save/load during combat) and Kinetic other than Sola's gun was just too unreliable for me, which is why I focussed on lasers with the Sunrider. Once you get the frigates to strip shields from the enemy I think they are the best/most reliable option, and upgrading them is very efficient.

Nothing like tearing apart enemy ships with a proper barrage of kinetic firepower.
Give their hulls what-for!

Gotta go kinetic because it kills everything. Sure you gotta be close but that's what lasers and shielding is for. Make the enemy close on you and then when they do, unleash the coup'de grace.

I have to say Assault. Great for fighting Ryders and finishing off weakened ships. The Flak it provides has also saved me many a time.

Lasers here. Good range, very accurate and ok damage. That being said, I think the weapon types were reasonably well balanced. I used all of the weapon types pretty often except for missiles and torpedoes. I do hope in future iterations they do something with Flak, missiles and hopefully the size of the maps. My biggest complaint about the gameplay is that the only real viable tactic is sticking all of your ships in a corner to stack Flak and shield bonuses and let the AI come to you. The only character that really ever left the deathball was Icari because she had stealth and wouldn't instantly die leaving the pack. It would be nice if the maps were bigger as well. The lack of distance between the two forces also discourages movement.

The last levels of Liberation Day were bearable thanks to the AOE torpedoes (especially the escort mission)
