We fly the colors of Cera! It may be one world among thousands but it is ours and we shall take it back - no matter the cost. I like to think that Kayto is sort of like an anime Charles de Gaulle (French Military Leader in WW2 and later French President), because so long as he is at large then by gosh it doesn't matter if the homeland was already completely taken over by the enemy we will still get a seat at the bargaining table! And just like de Gaulle, we are sort of a double-edged factor when it concerns our allies. Seriously, that man frequently caused his allies heartburn. But at least he never got them massacred at a banquet... Also, I really like those zippy gunboats we get in the second game, they really do a good job of holding the line. Hope we get another squadron of them at the beginning of the next game just to illustrate how much Kayto's cause is tied up to his homeworld.

Cera for life! I think the De Gaulle comparison is a great one in fact. Although I would prefer knowing Cera a bit better than we do, I would never not fly my country's colors into battle.

Cera for life! I think the De Gaulle comparison is a great one in fact. Although I would prefer knowing Cera a bit better than we do, I would never not fly my country's colors into battle. Well, based on the Sunrider Academy and what scant little info we could glean from the odd flashback, along with [Re]turn end content, Cera seems distinctly Japanese. You see such elements as Shinto Shrines & Mountain Temples, a fixation on school outfits, a preference for tea over coffee (note that I said preference, tea was originally/probably Chinese), they have/had a Prime Minister instead of a President, and lastly in the lore Cera is a noted industrial power in the area before their fall. It's not a perfect comparison, but it also helps explain Kayto's mindset. Frankly, I don't think anyone from what we would call a "western audience" would ever have faulted Kayto from retreating with the Sunrider at the beginning. It was the correct move, but he took it much harder and more personally than I thought he should have. Besides the obvious PTSD the man was suffering from throughout the game, he was also beset by his regret at not dying to protect his world, his home, and his family. Which is plainly obvious when he is engaged in a full-blown kamikaze maneuver at the end of Liberation Day to, well, save the day. It's not straight up Bushido, and could frankly be mirrored to other military cultures, but pretty close. But otherwise Cera is pretty nondescript, made further vague by the fact that none of the Ceran crewmen show much personality in [Re]turn (points to myself), and the Ceran Gunboats sound exactly like Alliance ships when chatting in English Localization. The world and it's people are an ideal more than a culture in some respect, a neutral power that was minding it's own business and didn't deserve what happened to it in the story. I think there is a trope for this somewhere because it pretty much mirrors that one mini-nation in the Valkyria Chronicles - only in space. But yeah, I would like to know more about Cera in the next game - give us a flag, a slogan, and some more characters besides our team of Waifus to talk with. They exist, they just weren't drawn. It's like in Eve Online where you pilot a ship and it turns out that there are actually crewmen on those ships that in the game's meta are a non-factor. Which is fine when your ship keeps getting blown up in pvp but not when you are dealing with a long-term rpg situation. Maybe in the next game, now that the Sunrider's crew needs to be reformed, we can actually meet other crewmen.

To me it was like this. Cera: Poland Pact: Soviet Alliance: Western Ryuvian: Roman Empire The Prototype: Marvel Hydra Mining Union: Swiss (mercenary) Ongess: Third world country who got trashed by the bigger power.

I mean, the real-world parallels are obvious except for maybe the Prototypes. But I was more interested in Cera's culture, which naturally seems more like Japanese-filler.

I saw Cera more as Japan but the rest, ya I think the comparisons fit.

Well of course the comparison fits, the entire premise for the plot was built around clumps of real-world history that were slapped together. With that said, there was enough world development that the story and lore could take on their own form. In time, if the developers care to, the setting can be built upon using this original base.
The lot of an indie development team is always uncertain, but I think this brand has the potential to stay afloat. The factions are certainly an important part of this, as they will help set the tone and motivations of our characters.
