Fire Emblem Fates just hit stores in the US a few days ago (sorry Europeans). Managed to get my copy of birthright on opening day.
Wondering if anyone else has started playing yet, and how are you all enjoying it? I was fairly productive before, but now I am going to get nothing done.
And I suppose since this is a Sunrider forum, who is your waifu/husbando?mines Rinkah

I'm waiting for a sale. Not that I have anything against the game, but I missed my shot at the special edition so might as well be patient for another pass at it.

Almost finished the Conquest or Nohr path.
Gameplaywise? Best in the series so far... Out of tge ones I've played (Fe6 till Fe13)
The story has it's fair share of issues, but if you like SRPGs (and being in the Sunrider forum, you most certainly do), it's well worth the try.
Feel free to ask any questions about the game.
Waifu/husbando?
As Nohr is clearly superior to Hoshidon't in the waifu and character department (though I do like Reina a lot, and Oboro looks like a unit I'm going to enjoy using), I'd say Flora (meidos ftw). I do like Beruka and Peri as well, but their supports with the avatar are meh, so I have better OTP's thought up for them.
Husbandos?
Lazlow and Saizou would be my picks for female avatar run.
And btw, I'm a sophisticated and elegant Eurodude, but got my hands on 'Murican 3DS. Because freedom.

Well, finally we will get Fate in Europe, so for now I'm simply waiting. Also, johntitor, what do you think about Azura? I know slight spoilers about it (not much though), but I simply want to know whether you liked her or not (I had my eyes on Flora too, but she was close second).

I like Azura a lot. Her supports, specially those of Conquest and Revelations with MCorrin give those RobinxLucina OTP vibes. Alltogether solid supports, beautiful character design, and has an interesting personality. She plays to be a bit too misterious at times...but she makes for a great main character to compensate for Corrins naive behaviour. Think of her as somekind of Lucina 2.0, but wiwith more presence and less of an obsession with the main quest.
So Azura is easily high in the waifu tier, but again, same as it happened to me with Lucina, I see her more in a potential OTP with generic MCorrin than with my character.
And that's the reason Flora and others score higher for me. I have a similar issue with other characters in the series. I like Flora a lot, she gets little screen time, but the little she gets is top notch and is not fixed to any specific character troupe. + She does experience ch dev. Man, my only complaints about her is not being able to recruit her earlier and that she has few support options...
Funny thing we haven't even mentioned the royal siblings... Character wise the best are the younger brothers (inb4 blonde Marth), specially Leo.
And Camilla is way better the initial impression I got from her. (Heavy bias due to her being sort of the unholy birthchild of Haar and Jill statwise , and being a speedy Wyvern Knight, kinda my favourite class in FE)

I hear she was very good statwise, but is she really as good as the flying tank? He could solo entire chapters with a bit of skill! Damm, that looks hax... (though i don't mind, Wyvern Ryders in Awakening were fairly underwhelming)

I mean, she doesn't tank as well as Marx or a cheesy avoidance Ryoma. But hell, she can take a beating and leave groups of enemies in killing range for other units.
It's not as tanky as Haar, but she has a relatively high avoidance..being in a tanky class, with high Speed and nice str.
It's like getting PoR Wyvern flashbacks, not as good as in RD...but if no snipers or bowusers are around...whatever that unit is, it's DEAD.You can actually make her get bowbreaker...making her nearly impossible to hit by her only two weaknesses, because The lass has an impressive Res stat even in Wyvern Lord.
So yeah, wyvern lords and bersekers are back at the top of the foodchain.

I was actually playing this one up until I started on Sunrider Liberation Day. I got through Conquest mode, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how much it made me think. I usually don't expect much strategy-wise from Fire Emblem. So yeah, wyvern lords and bersekers are back at the top of the foodchain. I can attest that Camilla's great, as a tank you still have to be careful near the end of the game even around non-bow users, but she's got a lot of offensive punch too. When paired up she gets enough speed to double a bunch of stuff, and axes with good strength are no joke. She had the highest kill count in the end, only rivaled by Corrin and Odin (The latter I suspect got RNG-blessed, which I'm totally fine with) Have mixed feelings about marrying Camilla though, her bonding lines kinda made me cringe, haha. I suspect a lot of them are like that, though.

My Birthright waifu was Felicia, although I did like Setsuna too. Conquest waifu is Peri, but it was a tough choice. Was considering Flora, Beruka, Selena, Sophie or Nina. Revelations waifu might be Selkie, Setsuna, Beruka or Nina.

I'm going through Birthright atm... It's a bit of a downer in the gameplay department compared to Conquests maps...
(But I'll try to keep an open mind about it and learn to like the characters, and not judge the game until I have finished it)
Reina, Setsuna, Orochi and Kagerou are in my sights atm...but we will see. I think Silas will turn out more useful in this path, but I fear Mozu doesn't have the niche spot that made her a useful and solid unit with not that much investment in the Nohr path...
I mean..paired enemies not moving in birthright is kinda cheap... The paladin + Bow knight or dark knight combo Conquest loves to use is not going to make their appearance here.

Hmmmm so I take it Conquest is the better of the two then in terms of story.
From what I am reading here.
Had a problem that arose with my preorder with Gamestop so after chewing out people and complaining to the right people I ended up with both versions of the game so I am trying to decide which version to do frist.

Sephiroth, I'm talking strictly of gameplay and characters, and I'm not yet through all Birthright.
Actually, storywise, most people seem to like Birthright better, due to Conquest having some problems in the plot and how some chars behave.
Birthright is more like your standard FE story with your good vs evil kingdom.

My plan is to go Birthright, then Conquest, then finally revelations.
I think I'll like a lot of the characters and story from both, but I am slightly leaning more towards Hoshido characters atm.
This way I get the easy but fun one, then the super hard one, then the one with all the spoilers and extra story.

Fire Emblem are games for Nintendo D3S, right? I am not really fan of buying entire console to play one game especially since I already own PS3 and PS4 and if I were to buy another console for just 1 epic game, then it would have been Wii U for probably the best game of previous year Xenoblade Chronicles X

Grumble, stupid people living on the other side of the Atlantic while we have to wait two more months before having the game available. Rub it in, why dontcha.
I actually should stay clear of this topic, I guess. Spoilers are the enemy!

Grumble, stupid people living on the other side of the Atlantic while we have to wait two more months before having the game available. Rub it in, why dontcha. I actually should stay clear of this topic, I guess. Spoilers are the enemy! We're keeping it quite spoiler free. Albeit discussing who are best characters (Oboro,Royal Siblings, Laslow, Captain America, Saizou,Beruka) and best waifus (Flora ftw). While you wait, I think I read that you had tried only Awakening so far... Imho, you mkght want to give FE7 , and specially the Tellius games (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn) a try. I can facilitate you the ROMs and emulators. KnightOfXentarTye 3DS has quite an impressive game library. It has some great Jrpgs you might enjoy, Xenoblade Chronicles on the New3ds , and the Bravely saga that is awesome. And that's without going into the Nintendo IPs .Oh and Monster Hunter. How can someone not like Monster Hunter?! You could surely get a second hand 2ds or stabdard 3ds at a decent price.

Played both (can't get Revelations yet in my part of the world -_-). Conquest path is for those that like playing the roll of the anti hero, while Birthright is you being the good guy.
I remember there being lots of discussions over the difficulty of the paths, mainly due ot the lack of money/exp opportunities in Conquest as opposed to Birthright. But after playing both I can say that I found, with the exception of the last mission, for Birthright to be harder. You NEED those extra missions since Birthright story missions give you a pittance in comparison to the Conquest variants.
Also, Hoshido characters and classes are...VERY...flimsy compared to their Nohr counterpats. Relying on evasion early game is not fun.
That out of the way, imo, best character would be Elise since she's potentially the strongest healer in the game and once she becomes a strategist she makes Leo look like a third rate magician.

Big Fire Emblem Fan here, played since Savred Stones. Managed to snag a SE.
Fates was a disappointment story wise, but gameplay wise and character wise I feel like it did well. I just hope we don't get more Pokemon-style multiple releases. Sacred Stones did split route best.
On another note, I've played them all but Thracia and Gaiden now. I've gotta say each is an improvement over the last in many ways, but also trips on stuff the last got right.
