Fuel rods? Do you mean the 'Ongessite Injection Rods'? They give you access to the order 'all power to engines' (halves en requirement on movements for two turns). Both this and the 'Cloaking Field Generator' are available from the store after the first scenario. vaendryl: I can see why you recommend it, just cleared the first chapter and loving it so far. Actually, you only get the Ongessite injection Rods if you're above a certain affection level with Icari (if you choose to save the diplomats you basically need to choose her in almost every decision). I think the cloak field generator needs something similar...? I can confirm I have neither.

Union battleship only available after mission 5 (on a new game) Yeah, I can confirm if you continue an old save from 12.3 the Union battleship is still there to purchase. I'll religiously wait until mission 5 for now (perhaps later make a new playthrough in waifu mode to check if it happens). On a related note, when are the MIRV torpedo supposed to unlock? Just after mission 1 they aren't there, however in the warning they give you before mission 2 (when you can choose to go the store and quicksave) it's suddenly there. Given the introduction of splash damage in mission 2 (which I couldn't see because I obliterated those destroyers in a panic; I don't want to repeat another surprise like the ironhogs...), I suppose the point was to unlock it after mission 2? I mean, it's not a like a big point, given that even if you purchase it you won't be able to use it for half the mission, but it kinda bothers me.

Marx-93 I think this is one of those missions where things are quite a bit easier on hindsight. If you've put considerable upgrades into missiles/rockets, they're ALL going to be wasted here. Fortunately you get one last chance before battle starts to tweak things and you are specifically told that missiles are not operable till at least turn 5, so a savvy tactician still has a chance to adjust. The first time I did this on beta 10, I also took quite a bit of damage and barely scraped by with kinetics. This second time round, I incorporated Histie's advice on getting Seraphim double kinetics earlier. Completely sacrificed Liberty's EN as her repairs are now basically just to prevent unit losses. Liberty is now a Disable bot so 100EN is as good as 100+ EN. She doesn't need FlakOff either in this battle for obvious reasons, so I wasn't concerned with getting her up to 140EN. The rest of the Intel for Seraphim's kinetics I raided from Sunrider's missile store and missile damage upgrades. I take this as part of the initial reconfiguration for upgrades (no way I'm using the standard upgrade scheme). And I will say I am quite pleased with the results as the battle went a good deal smoother. If you have a full kinetics setup (triple kinetic Paladin, double kinetic Seraphim, both Alliance Cruisers) going into this fight and start with Full Forward (on Space Whale I couldn't quite get enough CP from the previous fight, so I had to get 1 Arcadius down first with Phoenix), handling those Battleships should not be too hard and a good start gradually snowballs down, making turn 5 reinforcements less traumatic as well. Oh and it's good to have you back Marx Oh, well, it's not like I suffered that much (I sweated a lot, but the problems weren't with the initial round, but rather with the final group of reinforcements: had to use all Guard in order to not lose an Alliance cruiser), but with hindsight I probably would have taken out a few upgrades and gotten the Seraphim double kinetics. Though I think it was more of that with knowledge of were the reinforcements would come I would have made a lot of changes to my positioning. As I said, I expected reinforcements, but the last batch was overkill (yeah, I know it's supposed to be offset with Grey's reinforcements, but that turn is still hellish, specially as I had the Seraphim on the wrong side of the map and couldn't snipe the Supports). I just hate going back on upgrades, and the horrible new upgrade page didn't help (I'll just rant about how bad it is when I finish all the Beta). I also wanted to go "blind" in a way. Triple kinetics for the Paladin seems feasible, but I don't think I needed it that much, though that is probably the difference in difficulty speaking And yeah, is good to be back.

I think you're right that Awakening is not counted on the repairs, however, in my case the damage by mercenaries was taken into account?
In the 2nd battle had ~900 of repair cost, and it was 500 of the Paladin, 400 of Sunrider, 400 and 200 by (my) Alliance cruisers and 300 by the Phoenix. Asaga and Sola furthermore had 350 and 75 damage from Awakening. It was on captain though, maybe the difference is there?

I can certify this.
While mission 2 was kind of a hell (not being allowed to use missiles or rockets, to me it's a death sentence...), it was the hell I was kinda expecting. I don't know later missions (I've just spent at least 2 hours and a half on this mission, and I need a break), but the Union Battleship makes 2 a lot smoother.

It needs some of the files of 12.1 or 12.2, or I can install the patch directly on the fresh 12.0 version of Liberation Day?
Because yeah, while probably today and tomorrow I won't have time, I've returned! One week late as always, but that's as expected of me....

Hum... after Far Port you're actually already in Mask of Arcadius. When MoA was released, it "fused" together with First Arrival, so that you automatically continue on the new content. You're not that far from the end actually.
And yeah, Ongess (and the effects on Kayto) is definitely the best moment on MoA.

I've seen enough anime and played enough VNs to reasonably guess what everyone is saying (6 years hearing Japanese voiceovers are not just for show!), but yeah, at least some kind of subtitles would be helpful.

My backlog is tremendous too. Honestly, I'm more of JRPG gamer, but have dabbled here and there: I love strategy games, but after playing 50+ hours at Crusaders Kings and 100+ hours at Rome:Total War, I now quickly grow tired of anything that doesn't have a narrative hook for me to hang on. However, Valkyria chronicles, Fire emblem and Devil Survivor, I ate them all up. Oh, and Trails, but Trails is almost on another level (of how good it is) for me. And Drath, on Fire Emblem, I would actually recommend you to use an emulator and try either FE7 or FE4 first. Both are the peak of the series, both are very challenging (specially FE4) and both have a "classic" game aura you will probably love (Awakening or fates will probably be way too easy for you; the gameplay is good, it's just, well, not needed to learn at depth because except for some cheap bosses and difficulty modes there will be nothing forcing you to think that far). Though if you still haven't got Trails in the Sky SC, I don't know if I should tell you this, that is a capital sin after all ... (in which region you are?)

I tend to have lots of favourites: for example I have a list of 100 RPG tracks in my music folder and this barely covers my basics. In general, almost anything by the Falcom jdk band will be amazing (my favourites are this one from Cold Steel, and this one from Trails in the Sky). Gust Sound team however is pretty cool itself (here is one of its standout pieces). Besides that, music by Daisuke Ishiwatari, Shoji Meguro (which also made the Persona 3 soundtrack) and Motoi Sakuraba when he's actually motivated are all pretty great (I particularly love this one from Daisuke, this one from Meguro and this last from Sakuraba). I also lately have gained an appreciation for some of Kenji Ito's classics too ( this track is definitely one of his finest). In a different style, a love most of what FreQuency does for the Armored Core soundtracks ( like [Day After Day], the trailer music for Armored Core: Verdict Day) Overall the music I'm hearing depends a lot on my mood, so my list can change depending on the month (the Phoenix Wright OST is also very good for example).

Thanks for that explanation marx93, it really answers a lot of questions. I have to ask though, why did the original versions of Sunrider have a bad rep? If anything I´d say those were better than what we have now. I really like the idea of going to the different areas of the ship, and the concept of the space map where you´d pick your missions was great too. Also, there was a different feeling to the story? Or maybe it was the way the story was told? Is the game structured more like the "moe" VNs now? Pretty much. One of the biggest changes of Lib Day towards being more similar to a VN is precisely erasing the maps and making most sequences linear. Most VNs only point of interactivity is making choices. Overall though, the bad rap of the original Sunrider is not for that ("pure" VNs players tend to not care for gameplay, but it also doesn't mean they will completely reject everything with it). It was more due to presentation: the original art was not so good, the voices were only on the gameplay portion, and the interface itself was clunky and full of lag. If you see, presentation is really the part of Lib Day that has been worked out most: a lot more CGs, pretty art, voices and cool stuff happening. The story itself was also very standard and had nothing really standout (with more than one cliché). It wasn't until Far Port that it picked up, and even then until Ongess that it really could stand on its own. By that time, most of this kind of players would have already given up (a lot maybe finished First Arrival, but write it off as "slightly below average", and didn't bother with MoA). I know that myself, being a fan of both Visual Novels and sci-fi strategy games was basically playing Sunrider due to mechs, lore and gameplay until Ongess.

On the Japanese voice overs
Well, as you can see by the URL of this forum, LiS particularly likes to dabble and market its game as "moe". That's basically a visual genre in anime related to young girls drawn in a cute way (normally referred jokingly as "waifus"). Samu-kun in particular seems to love it a lot.
And as moe is basically born and only produced in Japan, it's not only associated with animes and high-schools, but also with particular Japanese voice actors and Japanese voice-overs (and yeah, Japanese voice-overs sound high-pitched for most westerners). Samu-kun's want for Japanese voice-overs is more due to wanting to tap more into the VN market (the original Sunrider has a fairly bad rap around pure VN fans) and probably because of his own preferences.
Beside, while with higher budgets the differences blur, arguably an average Japanese voice-over tends to be a bit better than an average English voice-over (in the Japanese side the job is simply too competitive and filled with talent: the prestige of voice actors there has no comparison with the one it has here). There's also the fact that voicing NSFW material is, well, not commonly done here. There are no problems on the Japanese side there.
While I agree that a lot of people approached Sunrider for its sci-fi setting and gameplay (myself included), it's also clear that LiS want to be a VN indie developer more than a "normal" indie developer. So it makes sense they'll approach their magnum opus with that kind of mindset.

I don't think they can't do it directly, for the same reason they can't update the original Sunrider with the new sprites (license things, as one is freeware and the other a commercial release). However, like mcz117 said it should be fairly trivial to extract the original voicefiles. Given that it seems Samu-kun also wants Lib Day to be easy to mod, implementing them should also be easy (and at least in the DL release of the Beta, most files including the script are pretty accessible, so there shouldn't be a problem).

Phoenix has a bonus to resurrect because youknow. phoenix. the undying bird? I just think it's funny. I even made an achievement for resurrecting her twice in the same battle named "phoenix down". no? never played final fantasy? ok That made me laugh more than it should

Yea, I've never been a rocket (torpedo) user either as those who know my playstyle will attest, as I generally prefer to rely on actual upgrades rather than consumables, hence why I caught these late. Used to rely on the old crew, who were rocket users (Gorchnik, Graph, Marx) for feedback in that regard, but my Lord and Marx are both busy with RL, and Graph is probably no longer with us, so I think I probably should occasionally try out rockets for testing purposes... just in case. Absolutely sorry with that. I admit that I played some of the new BETAs very shortly, and didn't even touch the last. It's not only only because of lack of time, but also because I was burning out, and kinda wanted to "reserve myself" for the final launch. I admit that I didn't enjoy the last betas of Lib Day as much as I hoped (though that has also to do with what I feel is a downgrade of the writing), and probably pulled apart too much. I think I'm motivating myself again though, but I'm sorry to leave you alone there Drath (and don't feel the need to apologize or anything, I know you didn't mean anything bad or something of the sort, but in the end you are right).

I think the game isn't as much about the romance as people assume. it's surely more like mass effect or MLA than, say, clannad. ... I would agree with you if half the plot of Liberation day weren't scenes of either Asaga cursing about Chigara due to being jealous, or Chigara being cutesy and lovey-dovey with the captain... Oh, well, you know I was always more for the SRPG part though. And asking things about the setting.

You know what would disappoint me? If we do not get a 'space whale' route... Yes LiS, I have not forgotten the 'Romancable Space Whales' was on the cards in the original Kickstarter. emoticon_asaga_small If you want that, then I'm plenty sure Samu-kun will oblige if you pass him a check with 60k$ needed to reach that goal~~ On the Betas for Academy, yes, they did it like that, but they also completed each route before moving on. Seeing as the release date is only one month away, I simply don't think there's enough space to build significant routes (different endings with different girls yes, but wholly different routes like Academy? I don't believe so).

... Considering LiS speed in releasing new material, I find it unlikely even though I would wish it too (I also want my blue haired one route~~).
However, it wouldn't be the first time Samu-kun trolled us, and he himself said he wished to continue Sunrider after Lib Day. So maybe he plans to make it mostly lineal, with different ending and then after it new games that build on these endings?

For now the game is linear. It has some branching points, but nothing much besides it. So everyone is forced on the Chigara route.
I believe the final beta will be lineal too, but it will probably have different endings in which the character's affection points may or may not play a purpose. While I'm not sure on the others, considering Ava's popularity and her importance, I would be surprised if she doesn't have her own ending. Asaga was supposed to be the main heroine too.
Of course, what we don't know is how these endings may play out, or if they will be happy.

It's nice to see everything centralized (and Drath never wasting time).
On another question: now that you have the end of Liberation Day in sight (or at least that what it seems from your comments on Twitter), do you already have an idea if you want to continue supporting MoA with some upgrades, simply sporadic bug patches or leave like it is?
...or are you in Lib-Day-mode and you'll need at least one month of break to even start thinking on anything else...?
