I like Sola. I like Ava too. But I voted for Sola.

Poor Asaga. She never wins these.

I can do this. Maybe. 

I can understand the appeal of Sola. Quiet, fish out of water, a mix of innocent joys and weary cynicism. A girl who was born to nothing, fought for a people she barely knew and sacrificed herself for them. She understood her duty, but really, really just wanted someone to GIVE A DAMN about her, to ask her what she wanted out of life. I see that, and I respect that. I look at her and say "There's so much more! You don't need to give up anymore. You can put down your burdens for just a little while and rely on ME to carry them."

So why do I like Ava? I like her for many of the same reasons I like Sola. She thinks about the greater good, disregarding her personal feelings in favor of doing what she feels is right, about doing what she thinks needs to be done. 

However, I think the major difference between the two lies in the reasons for why they act. Sola did what was expected of her. As Sharr, as princess (even though of bastard blood), it was her duty to save the Empire, to fight and potentially die for people who barely knew who she was. She feels very much like leaf caught in the whims of fate, not in control of her destiny. This is part of her semi-fatalistic attitude, and why she feels so very lost right now. She has come to the future, and in doing so lost her destiny, and so lost her path. That is why she latches onto Asaga as the last of the Throne, why she latches onto you as her Commander, the director of her fate. Ava feels like she has more agency, that she is...........

Fuck. NO. This isn't why I like Ava.

Let's try that again.

Ava is competent. Ava fights and bleeds for what she wants. She wants order to chaos. She challenges Kayto when she feels he's wrong, is dependable and reliable. I TRUST her. And Ava trusts Kayto. That's probably the biggest thing. When the chips are down, when the world is going to shit and you absolutely need someone to have your back, to come up with a plan and cover all the contingencies, Ava is your gal. I don't want to have to do everything, to think and worry and plan for everything. With Ava, you don't have to. Even when he's doing something stupid, something she thinks is the wrong move, she still follows through. But she doesn't follow blindly. Ava still covers the bases, digs and plans to make Kayto's idea work and plan for when it doesn't. With Sola, Icari, Asaga, everyone else, I don't feel like they're ever my equal. But Ava does. Ava feels like someone Kayto could trust his life to.

Anyway, I never played the 1.00 ending, but several (i.e. Chigara & Claude) just got a lot more interesting. I pretty much always call Chigara "worst girl" in my head, but after this, I may need to revise that position.

Made an account just to vote for Ava, Icari and Sola are not far behind though. Still, Ava is the most solid choice, specially now that she is finally opening up to her true feelings instead of being a pseudo tsundere all the time. I think they overdid it a bit with Icari's tsundere act in this installment, she was fine in FA and MoA but now it seems a bit... forced I think? Btw how the hell Cosette has so many votes? She barely has any screen time!

That didn't take long for Icari's club members to become a cult/religion. That aside.
